ESPYs Awards Show

Former Bowling Green State University student-athlete Jordan Sigalet (Surrey, B.C.) will featured this Sunday, July 19 at the 2005 ESPY Awards Show as a nominee for "Best Comeback Athlete." The broadcast is scheduled for 9 p.m. (EST) on ESPN.

The ESPY Awards were created by ESPN in 1993 and are presented for Excellence in Sports Performance Yearly. This year's ESPYs were taped Wednesday, July 13 at the Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles.

Mark Fields of the Carolina Panthers won this year's "Best Comeback Athlete" award after returning to the National Football League playing field from a battle with cancer. Other nominees besides Sigalet were Kayla Burt of the University of Washington women's basketball team and U.S. Olympic wrestler Rulon Gardner.

Sigalet is the first BGSU student-athlete to be nominated for an ESPY. The goalie completed his collegiate hockey career at BGSU this past season as the school's all-time leader in save percentage (.915) through 102 career games. He also finished second all-time at BGSU with a 2.98 goals-against-average and third all-time with 3,147 saves. Sigalet's 5,924:09 career minutes played are the fifth-most in BGSU history. He was named All-CCHA First Team in 2004 and All-CCHA Second Team in 2005.

The 2001 draft pick of the Boston Bruins (7th round) was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in March of 2004 and made his disease public on December 11, 2004. He played in 32 of BGSU's 36 games last season and had a 2.89 gaa. and .915 save pct. Sigalet was in net for all of BGSU's 16 victories, helping lead the Falcons to its best season in nearly a decade.

For his efforts, Sigalet was one of 10 finalists for the 2005 Hobey Baker Memorial Award, given annually to the top collegiate hockey player. He was the first BGSU finalist for the award since 1995 when Brian Holzinger won the award.
