In 2005, Detrick was the first assistant at the University of Louisiana at Monroe where she helped the team record their most wins in 14 years. In January she was named interim head coach at ULM after their former coach, Mark Pryor, resigned.

Prior to her time at ULM, Detrick was a student assistant at her alma mater, Wayne State University. As a student-athlete for the Warriors, Detrick lettered two seasons and was a co-captain of the volleyball squad during the 2003 season.

The Lambertville, Mich., native played in all 103 games as a senior, leading the squad with 427 digs at the libero position. She ranked third in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletics Conference at 4.15 digs per game and was named to the GLIAC All-Academic team in 2003. She was also named to the GLIAC All-Academic team as a senior.

In addition to her time at Wayne State, she also played two years for Owens Community College (1999-2000) where she was a first team all-conference selection. During her tenure at Owens, she led the team to a 46-7 record and back-to-back National Tournament appearances.
